Public spaces and social activities are the essentials for balanced urban development. The wave of public space transformation has stormed through city centers all over Russia after the successful revitalization of Gorky Park in Moscow. In the conservative St. Petersburg the Work group on new public spaces and parks has just been established under the Vice Governor. It is clear that the replica projects of Moscow and international success stories would not work without the interdisciplinary approach to the transformation projects, analysis and involvement of different stakeholders. New projects implement the “city for people” approach addressing citizens, investors and business.
